Tens of thousands of Canadians who are customers of Bell say they are dealing with internet issues, according to numerous reports submitted to DownDetector.

As of 9:35 a.m. eastern, more than 139,000 people have reported issues with Bell, Bell Aliant and Bell MTS, with about 62 per cent of those reports noting problems with landline internet. The number has been quickly rising since just after 9 a.m. eastern.

The majority of outages are being reported, according to DownDetector, from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador, though there also appear to be some reports from other provinces.

People across Canada have also posted about Bell internet issues on X.

Bell’s support page also appeared to be down as of 9:45 a.m. eastern, with a single message being given: “The service is unavailable.”

According to DownDetector, multiple other internet service providers also had reports of smaller outages including Rogers, Telus, Cogeco, Eastlink and Virgin Mobile, with none surpassing 7,000 reports compared to the more than 100,000 seen by Bell.

Global News has reached out to Bell Canada to inquire if it is investigating, how many people have been impacted and if there is a potential restoration time.

“Some customers in Ontario and Quebec may be experiencing an Internet service interruption. We are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience,” the company wrote in a statement.

More to come.
